Itinerary
The Burgundy Canal Vandenesse-en-Auxois to Dijon
SATURDAY Meet at 3:30 pm at the Train Station in Dijon. Continue by motor coach to Vandenesse-en-Auxois and LITOTE. After an apéritif welcome, cruise to the village of La Répe to moor for dinner and your first night on the water.
SUNDAY This morning, visit the Château de Commarin and the medieval village of Châteauneuf-en- Auxois. An afternoon cruise to Pont d'Ouche offers opportunities for walking and biking along the towpaths that parallel the route.
MONDAY A morning cruise through the Vallée d'Ouche brings you to the pretty village of La Bussière sur Ouche. Later, drive through scenic countryside to Meursault in the Côte de Beaune for a private tasting of the area's prestigious white wine.
TUESDAY Spend the morning exploring Dijon, once the stronghold of the Dukes of Burgundy and still the regional capital. A guided tour of the historic city center includes a stop at the Ducal Palace and time to wander the open market. Lunch is served on board followed by a cruise to the village of Gissey.
WEDNESDAY Cruising through pastoral countryside, LITOTE arrives at Fleurey. After lunch, visit Beaune, Burgundy's wine capital. Your guided visit includes the famous 15th-century charity hospital, Hôtel Dieu, probably the finest example of late medieval architecture in existence. Return to your barge for drinks and dinner on board.
THURSDAY After a morning cruise to the port of Dijon, take an excursion to Clos de Vougeot, a wine making center since the 12th century. Antique wine presses are on display here and a guide engagingly explains the age-old process of wine making. This evening, enjoy a special farewell dinner aboard your barge.
FRIDAY After breakfast, transfer to the Dijon rail station where your tour ends.
Note: This route is run in reverse on alternate weeks and is subject to change without notice.
