SAINT LOUIS cruises the calm waterways of South-West France, including the historic lands of Aquitaine and Gascony. She does so in 'casual luxury' - providing for up to six guests in three stateroom suites of 127 sq. ft. The canal passes through the lush countryside, pretty villages and memorable towns. Your hosts, Alasdair and Barbara, together with their friendly and expert crew, will ensure that your holiday or vacation is the ultimate in relaxed pleasure.

One of the best kept secrets of the French waterways is the Canal de Garonne between Toulouse and Bordeaux in southwest France. Saint Louis barge owners, Barbara and Alasdair Wyllie, fell in love with this region when they purchased Saint Louis 7 years ago. To share their love and knowledge of the region, they offer two diverse itineraries to delight up to six guests.

For complete itineraries of the cruising area between Montauban (in the Midi-Pyrenees region) and Castets-en-Dorthe (in the Aquitaine region), see the Saint Louis webpage.

The Aquitaine regions extends from Perigueux (Dordogne) in the north, to Bordeaux of wine fame in the west, to the Pyrenees mountains in the south and to Valence d'Agen near Toulouse in the east. It is the significant wine-growing, agricultural and forestry area of France.

The historical area of Gascony became famous for such historical characters as Comte d’Artagnan, the inspiration for The Three Musketeers; Cyrano de Bergerac and Henry III of Navarre who became king of France as Henry IV. With more than 1,000 castles and manor houses, as well as beautiful old villages and historic towns, it is a visitor's playground. The sunny weather is ideal for the many fruit orchards and fresh market produce.
